Linking North NorfolkLocal NewsQuality of Life - what's going onDo you know of any projects planned to improve the Quality of Life in North Norfolk? The Community Partnership wants to identify gaps in services so that it can help make sure future plans meet the needs of local people.
If you know of a project that: This will help the Quality of Life group to see the full picture of what is going on and what is planned for communities. The Community Partnership will not be able to follow up on all the projects and identifying one does not mean that funding will follow. North Norfolk Community Partnership is the Local Strategic Partnership for the area. It brings together representatives from all those organisations involved in delivering public services to ensure that local needs are met and that projects and spending are co-ordinated effectively.
Three separate groups are looking at particular aspects of the
Partnership's community strategy. Quality of Life includes health and

A thriving third sector? vcsTogether – the recent Forum for
voluntary and community organisations active in North Norfolk - attended
by 40 organisations focused on the actions necessary for 'a thriving third sector'. (See the article lower down 'Measuring a thriving third sector'.)
Steering Group Health Connectors
This is a new project involving volunteers to support and
encourage people who are either over 60, or disabled, or have a long term health condition and in receipt of an income related benefit, who want to improve their health. Volunteers provide up to six visits with a client who may want to: The project covers North Norfolk, Broadland, Breckland and South Norfolk. Equipment available locallyA range of equipment to help with running public meetings and presenting your organisation is available for hire from Cromer at low rates - £3 for a digital camera; £10 for a portable pa system. Children and Young People Forum meetingThe recent Children and Young People Northern Area Forum meeting discussed the current position on commissioning with Children's Services; identified gaps in service provision; workforce development issues and use of the internet as a networking aid. Views will be fed into both the county-wide forum and the multi-agency Children and Young People Partnership Board that determines the way services are delivered. Next meeting 21 May, 6.30pm. General NewsMeasuring a thriving third sectorThe government is measuring progress towards to ‘a thriving third sector’ - one of its key indicators in Local Area Agreements - by a specially commissioned survey of over 100,000 registered charities nationally. The survey's aim is to get an understanding of the extent to which Norfolk’s public sector contributes to the success of third sector organisations. The findings will be used to set targets in the Local Area Agreement.
Over 1,000 Norfolk organisations have been polled and the response rate is currently about 40%. Headline findings should be available in January, with further analysis and full publication available in Spring 2009. The National Compact
The Compact is a tool for improving relationships between public
organisations and those in the voluntary and community sector. The full report is being sent to Kevin Brennan, Minister for the Third Sector. Around 100 local people voted on which of the 16 short-listed projects should receive a share of the £200,000 pot of money from the Norfolk County Strategic Partnership at the Your Norfolk, Your Decision day event held on Saturday 6 December. Subsided taxis not buses for rural areas ...This is a recommendation in a report from the Commission for Integrated Transport, the government’s transport adviser. DDA rights extended to 'associates'In Coleman v Attridge, a tribunal held that the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) is capable of being interpreted so as to protect people associated with a disabled person from discrimination or harassment.
In the case, Coleman is not
disabled herself, but cares for her disabled son. When she
sought to take time off to care for him, her
employer called her 'lazy' and accused her of attempting to
manipulate her working conditions. She brought claims under the
DDA, arguing that she had suffered discrimination by association with
