Independence

Will maintain high standards of governance and meet agreed reporting and accountability obligations to funders and users.

Funding

Develop clear and effective employment policies and management standards for both paid workers and volunteers.

Develop and implement effective and appropriate systems for the management and accountability of finances.

Establish appropriate systems for monitoring and evaluation against agreed objectives.

Consultation

Publicise and provide information to members and service users as appropriate about consultation exercises and encourage participation in consultation.

In their responses, tell statutory organisations whom they represent and on whose behalf they are speaking.

Ensure that views expressed as a result of consultation are conveyed accurately in responses.

Try and consult directly with those on whose behalf they speak.

Work to improve information about the scope and location of voluntary and community sector organisations by contributing to local databases, directories, websites etc as appropriate.

Volunteering

Recognise the importance of high standards and effective management of volunteers.

Encourage and enable volunteers who wish to do so to obtain accreditation of skills gained through volunteering.

Seek to widen the opportunities for volunteering and develop systems for working co-operatively with other organisations.

Work to develop a diverse volunteer base recognising that people from different backgrounds can bring fresh ideas and skills.
